The Hot Springs Boys & Girls Club, Inc. was chartered on August 4, 1941, and was located in the Armory Building on Woodbine Street until the completion of the new facilites on Carson in 1953. At first, the Club was served by part-time Directors. The first full-time Executive Director was Charlie Prescod, who served from 1941 to 1944; William A. (Moon) Mullins served from 1944 to 1947. Ira Lollis served from 1947 to 1969, at which time Robert L. Kissire became Executive Director. Mr. Kissire served as Executive Director from 1969 until 2001.
Natalie Caldwell, the first female to hold the position at this club, served as
Executive Director until August 2005. The Boys & Girls Club of Hot
Springs welcomed Tammy Adams as the new Executive Director at the beginning of
2005. Adams, who is a Hot Springs native, is formerly the Director of Marketing
& Resources for the Paul Bewie Boys & Girls Club located near Hot Springs
Village. After 9 years with the former Boys & Girls Club, Adams is confident her
skills in fundraising, grant writing and business contribution solicitations
will help secure much needed finances for the Boys & Girls Club of Hot Springs.
Having started out at a smaller Club almost a decade ago, Adams also gained
experience working with Club members in previous afterschool and summer
programs.
Many dedicated men and women have given their energies, time, talents and money to bring the Boys & Girls Club to its present situation. Too many to list have given so very much to this worthy effort, and we will always be grateful to and for each one.
The building and facilites on Carson Street were provided at a cost of $175,000 cash and an equal amount of donated labor, and was dedicated in 1953. On June 3, 1990, the Boys Club moved into its new facility located at 109 West Building. The cost of the new building was $610,000.
